Manteo’s 2020 Regatta canceled

The 2020 Regatta in Manteo has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns. The annual Regatta, traditionally held on the last Saturday in July, is hosted by the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum and typically attracts 35 to 40 sailors each year to the downtown waterfront.

Barry Wickre, museum manager, said this is the first time in 21 years the event has been canceled.

The town said the event was canceled to protect the health, safety and welfare of the community, volunteers, visitors and staff during the COVID-19 public health situation.

The Regatta is expected to return in July 2021.
